If you book a course at A Security Academy that includes the Exam Warranty and you do not pass a theory exam first time, we cover your next two attempts at that exam. Nothing extra to pay for the attempts the warranty covers. This page explains how resits work on SIA licence-linked qualifications, what the warranty covers, and the simple conditions that keep it valid.
How resits work on SIA courses
Every unit of a licence-linked qualification has its own multiple-choice paper, externally set and marked by the awarding body, and each paper has to be passed on its own. If you miss the pass mark on one paper you resit that paper only; everything you have already passed stays passed. Resit papers are different versions of the exam, so they test the same unit with different questions.
The pass marks are 70 per cent on most papers, 80 per cent on the Door Supervisor physical intervention paper and 71 per cent on the two Refresher papers. The full breakdown for each course is in our exam guides for Door Supervisor, Security Guard, CCTV, the Door Supervisor Refresher and the Security Guard Refresher.
What the warranty covers
The warranty applies to the theory (multiple-choice) exams on courses and packages where it is stated as included. If you do not pass one of those exams, you can sit it again up to two more times at no extra cost.
Practical assessments are not covered by the warranty because they are not resat in the same way. They are assessed in the room during your training: if a criterion is missed, the assessor goes through it with you and you repeat the assessment as part of the course.
How to keep the warranty valid
The warranty comes with a few expectations. By booking a course that includes it, you agree to them:
- Attend and take part. Arrive on time, complete all the required training and pass the practical assessments.
- Engage with the course. Make a reasonable effort with the course content, the e-learning and your training.
- Book your retake in good time. Book and sit any retake within the reasonable timeframe set by the academy.
- Attend what you agree to. Missing a confirmed retake, or arriving late, may result in the warranty being withdrawn.
The warranty may be withdrawn for non-attendance, lateness, misconduct or not meeting the course requirements. In practice, learners who turn up, take part and prepare for their retake never have a problem with it.
After the two covered attempts
If you still have not passed after the two covered attempts, further attempts are charged per exam at the rate shown on the warranty page. Very few learners get that far, and almost all of them skipped the mock exams.
The best warranty is preparation
Work through our free SIA mock exams for every unit, before your first exam and before any retake. They are sorted by course and unit, so you can go straight to the topics you find hardest. Between a first attempt and a resit, the most useful thing you can do is sit the mock for that unit under timed conditions, mark it, and reread the sections you lost marks on.
If you are unsure whether your booking includes the warranty, message us with your name and course and we will confirm. The full terms are on the Exam Warranty page, and dates and current prices are on the calendar.
